With the advent of new businesses related to Petroleum and Gas, due to the break of the monopoly, the concern of ANP (National Agency of Petroleum) with specialized labor to meet the needs of the Petroleum and Gas industries arose.
The solution found by ANP was the implementation of a Human Resources Program, seeking to stimulate the training of specialized labor, placed in many Brazilian universities, according to its specialties, using financial resources from Petroleum royalties.
These actions created repercussion in the area that in turn has generated many published articles. Within this context, professors and researchers felt the necessity of an association to articulate and represent these new activities, linking the academic and productive divisions.
In 2004, due to the ANP Human Resources Program, the researchers of Petroleum and Gas field, met in Maragogi/AL – Brazil and decided to create ABPG, a non-profit association with the following goals:
- Bring together people interested in the development of training activities, specialization and updating of the professionals involved in the Petroleum and Gas field, specially through the strengthening among the academic/scientific community, government, the support agencies and companies in the Petroleum and Gas field;
- Promote and Organize meetings, seminars, courses and congresses related to the Oil and Gas Industry, especially the Brazilian Congress of Research and Development in Petroleum and Gas;
- Edit techno-scientific journals, books, technical rules, etc. Especially the online journal called Brazilian Journal of Petroleum and Gas, released every quarter of the year.
