INTEGRATED ANALYSIS OF THE DECOMMISSIONING OF RIGID PIPELINES FROM OFFSHORE OIL AND GAS ACTIVITIES AND ITS RELATIONSHIP WITH CO2 GENERATION
Abstract
Decommissioning is an inherent stage in the life cycle of the oil and gas (O&G) industry, where possible destinations for facilities that have reached the end of their useful life or have become uneconomical are studied. The objective of this article is to estimate the greenhouse gases (GHGs) generation among the alternative destinations for offshore rigid pipelines, compared to potential savings from recycling, drawing parallels between the scenarios and reflecting on how the waste generated during decommissioning can impact carbon emissions led by the oil and gas industry. This work is based on a literature review of articles available in research databases using keywords and subjects related to the theme. Findings show that, because Brazil regulates practices for the decommissioning of installations, strengthening the circularity of equipment and accessories in the O&G industry, through the proposal of a circular value chain, it becomes possible to turn the challenges of decommissioning rigid pipelines into opportunities, contributing to the sustainable development.
